Background: The outbreak of vector-associated diseases is determined by different factors. One of them is the existence of appropriate climatic conditions which influence the development of vectors as well as pathogens. Nowadays, accurate data on the occurrence of both vectors and pathogens are often not available in Germany, espite the coastal zones of Lower Saxony (Germany) being former malaria regions. Thus, the question arises, whether a new autochthonous transmission could take place due to the monthly mean temperatures of recent ears taking into consideration the predicted increase in air temperatures according to the IPCC scenarios. Methods: To model areas at risk, the transmission potential for new tertian malaria spreads in respect to emperature was computed in a GIS environment using the Basic Reproduction Rate (R0) formula. Results:We were able to corroborate that the risk of tertian malaria transmission is increasing as temperature s the determining variable of the mathematical model. Conclusions: Lower Saxony is at risk of a new outbreak of tertian malaria assuming no other risk factors than emperature being of relevance.

Biotopical distribution and association of Saltatoria in the Parco Nazionale del Circeo, Lazio, Italy Faunal and ecological investigations were carried out in the Parco Nazionale del Circiofltaly during six 10-14-days excursions in September/October of the years between 1967 and 1989. For comparison, some places were included which are situated on the Pontinic plain and the promontary of Apennines outside of the National Park. The region and biotopes were charatcrized by the vcgetation.During the investigation period 57 species of Saltatoria were collected: 3 species of Phaneropteridae, 2 Meconematidae, 3 Conocephalidae, 9 Tettigoniidae, 1 Bradyporidae, 1 Rhaphidophoridae, 6 Gryllidae, 3 Mogoplistidae, 1 Myrmecophilidae, 1 Trigonidiidae, 1 Oecanthidae, 1 Gryllotalpidae, 3 Tetrigidac, 5 Catantopidae, and 17 Acrididae. Most of them are species with Mediterranean distribution. Because of the non-uniform structure of the investigated area, many species werc found typically hydrophilic besides xerophilic ones. In the region of the sea-shore and lagoons, characteristic associations of Saltatoria were present which showed a typical zonation in their distribution from the shore to the dunes and moist meadows up to the reed regions of the lagoons.Gryllomorpha sp. is probably a new record for Italy ; Plat?;cleis sahulo.sa, Paramogoplistes novaki and Uecanthus dulcisonans were collected first timc in the Italian peninsula. Myrmccophilus mymrcophilus was found first time in the nest of Lasiu.r emarginatu.s. Long-winged individuals of Trigonidium cicindebides were found also in Central Italy. Melanogiyllus desertus with a small tympanum on the fore-tibiae was mentioned as aberration. For Conocephalus discolor a song pattern of male is shown having two stridulatory phases.In the last about 50 years the diversity of Saltatoria increased in the park region from 34 to 57 species due mainly to processes of cultivation.
