Being the Alice of academia: lessons from the Red Queen hypothesis

Abstract: Viruses and hosts must navigate environments in which each tries to outcompete the other for survival or to co-exist within the same spaces. In Lewis Carrol's Through the Looking Glass, the Red Queen tells Alice, ‘Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place.
