This study aims to investigate the impact of macroeconomic indicators on Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET) population in Brazil, India, Indonesia, South Africa, and Turkey accepted as Fragile Five countries and Russia 2005-2018 period by using the panel data analysis method. Gross Domestic Product Per Capita (GDP), Inflation Rate (Consumer prices, INF), Adjusted savings for education expenditure (% of Gross National Income, S), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), HDI index data were used for explaining the NEET for selected countries. The relationship between variables was analyzed using the Panel Data Methods via Fixed-Effects Model. Therefore, according to the findings of Driscoll and Kraay Estimator-One-Way Fixed Effects Model, "HDI, GDP, FDI and S" variables have a statistically significant effect on NEET as the dependent variable. According to findings, while a 1% increase in HDI and FDI respectively give rise an increase of 2.14% and 0.03% on NEET, a 1% increase in GDP, and S resulted in a decrease of 0.77% and 0.38% on NEET. The findings of the correlation matrix of residuals revealed that the correlation between countries was highest between India and Brazil and the lowest between Russia and Indonesia. According to preliminary results requirement for human development indicators and attraction to FDI should be directed to rural areas for reducing the NEET rates in FFC.

NEET populaciju čine mladi koji nisu uključeni u obrazovanje, prekvalifikaciju ni na tržište rada. Cilj kvalitativnog istraživanja u kojem je sudjelovalo 15 stručnjaka i 25 mladih pripadnika NEET populacije s područja grada Zagreba bio je steći uvid u iskustva pripadnika NEET populacije i stručnjaka koji s njima rade vezano uz rizike koji dovode mlade do NEET statusa te uz njihovu perspektivu za zapošljavanje. Glavni rezultati pokazuju da razloge za nezaposlenost mladi vide u vlastitim neodgovarajućim obrazovnim i stručnim kvalifikacijama s obzirom na potrebe tržišta rada i u nedovoljnoj potpori javnih ustanova u nalaženju posla. Stručnjaci također prepoznaju obrazovni sustav i nepovoljnosti tržišta rada kao čimbenike rizika ulaska mladih u NEET status. Oni izvještavaju o nedostatnim evidencijama NEET populacije, njihovu otežanom dohvatu, teškom izlasku iz NEET statusa te o posljedicama tog statusa za mlade i društvo. Rad daje preporuke za unapređenje politika na lokalnoj i nacionalnoj razini te prakse u radu s NEET populacijom.

Aim The aim of the present study was to explore trends in NEET rates according to gender and NEET subgroups in young Italian people. Furthermore, it examined whether trends changed following specific time points such as financial crisis in 2008, education and labor market strategies, and the partial recovery of European economy in 2014. Methods All data were obtained from the ISTAT (Italian National Institute of Statistics) Database. NEET rates, stratified by gender and NEET subgroup, were extracted for young people aged 15 to 24 years from 2004 to 2019 in Italy. Trends in NEET rates stratified by gender and NEET subgroup (i.e., "unemployed", "potential workforce", "unavailable") were analyzed using joinpoint regression models. Results The trends of the unemployed NEET rate were stable or decreasing until 2008, increasing between 2008 and 2014 and thereafter decreasing across both male and female genders. The trends of potential workforce NEET rate sharply increased between 2004 and 2014, and afterwards decreased in both genders. Finally, the trends of unavailable NEET rate were stable in females and constantly increasing in males over the entire analyzed period. Conclusions According to the results of this ecological study, trends differences in NEET subgroups’ rates emerged. The financial crisis in 2008 and the education and labor market strategies around 2014 mainly coincided with relevant changes in trends of unemployed NEET rate and, partially, with changes in trends of potential workforce NEET rate. The trend in unavailable NEET rate increased over the entire period in males, and did not show important changes in either gender.
