Introduction: Dental anxiety is a kind of fear exerted due to threatening stimuli. Assessing a child's dental anxiety level is very important to perform a particular treatment. The aim of this study is to examine the various factors that determine the anxiety levels in children and evaluate their anxiety levels. Materials and Methods: A total of 50 children participated in the survey conducted. Each participant had fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria to answer the questionnaire. It included questions regarding their habits, fears, and dental visit experience. Evaluation of their anxiety levels was done using the facial image scale (FIS) and the modified dental anxiety scale and was correlated with various factors using the Statistical Package for Social Science Software. Results: Female children are more anxious than male children toward dental treatment. About 38% were anxious and 16% refused while undergoing radiographic examination and showed significant anxiety levels ( P = 0.012). About 16% of the population were highly uncooperative and were necessary to implement behavioral shaping techniques on them. It influences the FIS anxiety score before initiation of the treatment ( P = 0.003). About 48% of children had maintained a good rapport with the dentist and showed strong significance with the child's anxiety ( P = 0.025). Conclusion: Gender and behavior of the child while diagnosis and radiographic examination, implementation of behavioral shaping techniques, and rapport developed between child and dentist are all influencing factors of dental anxiety. The number of visits to the dental clinic, socioeconomic status, kind of amount of consumption of sugars, and type of treatment being done do not contribute to a child's anxiety level.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the parental perceptions and attitudes towards different behavior management techniques commonly employed by dentists. METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using a self-structured questionnaire. Data was collected from 134 parents accompanying their children (aged 5-10 years) for dental treatment. Descriptive and inferential analyses were carried out using SPSS v21. RESULTS: Among the 134 parents, 41.7% were males and 58.3% were females. The mean age of the children included in the study was 6.67 (SD+ 0.92) of which 44.02% were males and 55.9% were females. In addressing non-cooperation during dental procedures 30.1% of the parents would opt to defer the treatment and 24.4% expressed a preference for the dentist to perform the procedure forcefully. A majority of 86.5% expressed the desire to accompany their child during the dental treatment.The most acceptable technique by the parents was Tell-Show-Do and live modeling followed by positive reinforcement while treatment under general anesthesia was the least acceptable. CONCLUSION: Parents prefer using less aggressive techniques like Tell-Show-Do, modeling and positive reinforcement for the management of their children and the majority want to accompany the child during the treatment. The parents' least accepted technique is treatment under general anesthesia. A thorough understanding of parental desires promotes a healthy dentist-parent relationship. Background: The aim of behavior management is to instill a positive dental attitude in the anxious patient. It is the means by which the dental team can effectively and efficiently perform treatment, and encourages a child to have a long-term interest in improving dental health and the ongoing prevention of disease. Aim of the study was to evaluate the behavior of the children by using various behavior management techniques like thaumaturgy, live modelling and tell show do. Method: A total of 120 children, aged between 5-6 years fulfilling eligibility criteria were taken for the study. three groups were made and comparison was done between three behaviour management techniques: thaumaturgy, live modelling and tell show do. behaviour was recorded using Frankel behaviour rating scale was recorded before and after the procedure. Results: there was significant difference between thaumaturgy and other behaviour management techniques live modelling and tell show do (p=0.005). there was no statistical change in the behaviour between tell show do and live modelling. Conclusions: Thaumaturgy technique is better at reducing anxiety levels and all the three behaviour management techniques were effective in installing positive behaviour.
