Behaviors of semi-precast beam made of recycled aggregate concrete

Abstract: SUMMARY This paper presents behaviors of semi‐precast beams made of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) including flexural and shear performance. Specially, cracking patterns, deflections and bearing capacities of U‐typed and C‐typed beams are intensively examined, analyzed and discussed. In the study of flexural behavior, a main parameter is reinforcement ratio, whereas the shear span‐to‐depth ratio and types of precast section are parameters in the investigation of shear behavior. First, the flexural tests sho… Show more

“…The RCA replacement ratio, the water-to-cement ratio, and r L,min of the different tests are reported within the caption of the figure. Generally, an increase in r L improves the bending moment capacity of RNAC beams and the same is true for RRAC beams regardless of r (Appa Rao et al, 2008;Ashour, 2000;Xiao et al, 2014bXiao et al, , 2016. The influence of r L on the cracking moment ratio is relatively low while it is marked for the yield moment (with an almost linear dependency) and the ultimate moment (with a nonlinear dependency).…”

“…Besides investigations of short-term flexural and shear performance of reinforced RAC beams, which is studied in this paper, there has been significant research on various other topics such as semi-precast RAC elements [13], shaking-table and pushover analyses of complete RAC frame structures [14,15] and long-term behavior of RAC beams [16]. Important literature also exists on the ecological and economic viability of RCA production and use [17][18][19].…”
