Innovative techniques, such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) and vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) are reviewed in detail, emphasizing their potential as adjunctive therapies for seizure control. Surgical interventions, including resective surgery, laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT), and functional hemispherectomy, are discussed as viable options for patients with medication-resistant epilepsy.3 This review aims to provide an encompassing exploration of types and characteristics of treatment products, and an in-depth analysis of the market, including market size, distribution, and current trends. Additionally, it will conclude by presenting an overview of emerging approaches in epilepsy treatment for potential clinical applications.

Background: The orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) area plays a critical role in humanbrain functions. However, susceptibility differences between paranasal sinuses andnasal cavity tissues often cause local field variations in the OFC region duringMRI, resulting in image distortions and signal loss. This paper introduces asubject-friendly neck passive shim solution aimed at enhancing field homogeneityin the brain, specifically in the OFC region. Methods: Utilizing 3D gradient-echo pulse sequences, main magnetic field (B0)maps of four subjects’ brains were acquired at 4T MRI. Subsequently, these mapswere decomposed into spherical harmonic coefficients which were then averaged.Optimal positions for placing shim elements on a semi-cylindrical surface, whichwas positioned slightly above the neck and below the chin, were computed. Results: The findings indicate a substantial enhancement in B0 homogeneity, particularly within the OFC region, through the integration of thissemi-cylindrical passive shim system in conjunction with the first andsecond-order active shimming. Conclusion: Utilizing a local dipole passive shim field shows potential forimproving field homogeneity in the orbitofrontal region of human brain.

Three experiments were performed to assess the interanimal transferability of conditioned taste aversion to 0.1% saccharin. Two experiments used an intracerebrospinal fluid (subdural) route for administering brain extracts and a third used an intraperitoneal (IP) route. As assessed by repeated measurements ANOVA, saccharin consumption was significantly lower during extinction of conditioned aversion for experimental recipients (ER) receiving extracts from aversively conditioned donors, than that of control recipients (CR), receiving extracts from unconditioned donors in one subdural experiment, F(21, 189) = 1.61, p less than 0.05. In the IP experiment the results were in the same direction, though not significant, F(34, 238) = 1.39, p less than 0.1. Results of the other subdural experiment are discussed. It is concluded that these experiments with the conditioned taste aversion paradigm have potential as a model for investigations of behavioral interanimal transfer (BIT) and for neuromolecular research aimed at identification of associated putative neurochemical(s) and the elaboration of their mechanism of action.
