“…In the psychological literature, increased LF-HRV has previously been related to fatigue and attentional deficits (Egelund, 1982; Mascord and Heath, 1992; Fairclough and Graham, 1999). This may provide an explanation of our findings, as lowered attentional capacity may lead to shorter encoded durations (Zakay and Block, 1995), or stronger temporal context effects and a regression to the mean of the sample durations (Jazayeri and Shadlen, 2010).…”

“…Fatigue is major problem in road safety because it: (a) increases the likelihood that drivers will fall asleep at the wheel and (b) decreases one's ability to maintain essential sensory motor skills such as maintaining road position as well as appropriate speed (Mackie and Miller, 1978). During fatigue, the decreased physiological arousal, slowed sensorimotor functions and impaired information processing can diminish a driver's ability to respond effectively to unusual or emergency situations (Mascord and Heath, 1992). Recently, in a review from the International consensus meeting on fatigue and risk of traffic accidents, Å kerstedt and Haraldsson (2001) identified disturbed sleep, working at the low of the circadian rhythm and sleep apnea as some of the factors associated with fatigue related accidents.…”

“…It also requires completely clean grain samples, because the sensor registers small impurities. The standard deviation of the time required for visual and counter recording of the number of grains increased to a larger sample size, which is indicative of fatigue, according to Mascord and Heath (1992), the standard deviation and the time it takes for individuals to react, increases as time performing a monotonous and repetitive task increases.…”
