Behavioral Analysis of Registered Web Site Visitors with Help of Mouse Tracking

Abstract: We present a method to extract implicit data of registered users of a web site with the help of mouse tracking. This allows us to generate more accurate interest profiles of visitors of a web site and to obtain a solid basis for the calculation of user interests or trend detection in the Web. On the one hand, web site owners have the opportunity to adjust their sites to the interests of their users. On the other hand, they can detect new trends and expand these topics on their web pages accordingly.

“…In this context, Web Analysts can be also useful due to their competencies concerning reporting and their social competencies. Amongst others, possible research areas in which Web Analysts can be supportive for HCI comprise e-commerce [17], online and social media marketing [18] and any other applied discipline that involves interactions between humans and computers. Similarly to HCI practice, Web Analysts can support scientists through different activities of the four process steps, e.g.…”

“…Tracking visitor's interest across a Web-page is a relatively straightforward task in contrast to the physical, analog world. For example, digital tracking can be accomplished by tracking mouse movements [12] that, in its turn, can be used to predict user experience [7] and optimize the sales process. However, these insights are equally crucial in physical stores to understand how customers interact with a product or service, which attracts most customers' interest.…”
