Behavior of Quantized Vortex Rings Near a Wall

Abstract: It is shown that, neglecting frictional forces, a vortex ring does not approach a wall nearer than 0.1-0.5 of its radius. This effect can explain the buildup of space charges in front of electrodes observed in experiments with charge-carrying quantized vortex rings in He II. ed. There is a misprint on p. 240; J is missing in the multiplying factor of Eq. (1). 5 Herefwe take the hydrodynamical image, only. The effect of the electric image is negligible compared with the hydrodynamical image interaction.
