When fuel starvation occurs, hydrogen oxidation is no longer sufficient to maintain the current, and then the anode potential can reach as high as 1.6 V. [7][8][9] Such a high potential would accelerate the kinetics of electrochemical carbon corrosion at the anode and lead to significant degradation of the fuel cell.
