This article discusses the position of the novels Hari-hari Terakhir Seorang Seniman (1979) and Arus (1985) by Anwar Ridhwan as these are considered to be cultural products and behaviors of the Malay community. Based on the interpretation of the novels, from an ethnosemantics study by Goodenough proves that cultural products (literature) are the collective knowledge system of the Malay society in the 1940s and 1970s. In these two novels, Anwar Ridhwan has created a discourse of knowledge and cultural phenomena to discuss various issues in his society. It includes three main elements which are conflict of values, psychosocial and social leadership which can be connected with knowledge system, philosophy, public thinking and cultural behavior collectively. These works can be understood through content analysis to understand the forms of thought, cultural patterns, and behavior that form the basis of a society's knowledge system which is the focus of Anwar Ridhwan's novels. Therefore, these two novels in Goodenough's ethnosemantics perspective are social facts which are the basis to understand the way of life, thinking, philosophy, common sense and cultural practices that are the core of his authorship.

Beginnen wir mit ein paar persönlichen Erinnerungen, die sehr gut verdeutlichen, warum wir diesen Band so betitelt haben, wie wir ihn betitelt haben. Die erste reicht genau zwei Jahrzehnte zurück, in den Herbst 2002. Christa Dürscheid hatte gerade ihre Professur am Deutschen Seminar der Universität Zürich angetreten, deren zwanzigjähriges Jubiläum wir mit diesem Band feiern, und zwei Prädoc-Assistenzen ausgeschrieben. Einer von uns hatte sich darauf beworben, ohne viel Hoffnung, da er Christa Dürscheid persönlich nicht kannte, sie ganz sicher noch nichts von ihm gehört hatte, und außerdem: Syntax?! Vorfelder im Deutschen?! Valenz?! Schriftsysteme?! Da konnte er nun wirklich nicht reüssieren. Na gut, da war ja noch die Medienlinguistik, ein kleiner Hoffnungsschimmer vielleicht, und versuchen kann man es ja. Überraschenderweise kam dann die Einladung zum Bewerbungsgespräch. Schnell auf der Zugfahrt nach Zürich noch einmal die Einführung in die Syntax gelesen, man weiß ja nie; aber dann doch eingesehen, dass auf diesem Feld nichts zu gewinnen war, und in die Offensive gegangen: "Frau Dürscheid, dass ich im Bereich der Grammatiktheorie nichts vorzuweisen habe, haben Sie ja in den Unterlagen gesehen. " -"Dann erzählen Sie doch mal, was Sie machen!" Der Bewerber erzählt von seinem laufenden Dissertationsprojekt, einer soziolinguistischen Arbeit, in der sprachkritische Diskurse auf der Basis französisch-poststrukturalistischer Epistemologie analysiert werden -ein Thema, bei dem viele sog. ‚Kernlinguist:innen' nur müde abgewunken hätten (dazu später mehr). Christa Dürscheids Miene wird nachdenklich und ernst. "Ehrlich gesagt, ich habe absolut keine Ahnung von dem, was Sie mir da gerade erzählt haben. " Plötzlich ein Strahlen: "Das interessiert mich!" Diese Geschichte ist typisch dafür, wie Christa Dürscheid Sprachwissenschaft betreibt: als ständiges Sondieren dort, wo möglicherweise Neues und Überraschendes (nach Peirce 1958(nach Peirce [1901: § 180 ein Motor der wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnis) zu finden ist, Dinge, die nicht nur den 9 Brückenschläge fachlich, menschlich Es gibt im Leben Augenblicke, da die Frage, ob man anders denken kann, als man denkt, und anders wahrnehmen kann, als man sieht, zum Weiterschauen oder Weiterdenken unentbehrlich ist. The paradox of disengagement: Bodily displays of inattention in couple therapy

Using concepts developed by Goffman and the theory of inter-corporeality, this paper describes non-speaking spouses' responses to complaints made about them by the other spouse in the context of couple therapy first consultations. While the turn-taking system of couple therapy effectively precludes the possibility of a direct verbal response, non-speaking spouses often display bodily their disengagement from their spouse's talk. Using multimodal conversation analysis as the method, we show the repertoire of such disengagement behaviors and trace the moment-by-moment contexts in which they arise. While disengagement behaviors embody their producer's inattention to their spouse's talk, at the same time, they are, paradoxically, interactional moves produced in the presence of others, conveying their producer's negative stance to the ongoing talk. We argue that the timing of these disengagement practices involves anticipation of the direction of talk: non-speaking spouses display disengagement in moments when the speaking spouse's talk takes a direction toward an intensification of complaints about them.
