Abstract: BackgroundSeptic shock combined with septic cardiomyopathy greatly increases the risk of mortality in elderly patients. Patients with a rapid deteriorating state unresponsive to standard resuscitation may benefit from extra‐corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
