Digital games have been successfully applied in different working sectors as an occupational safety training method, but with a very limited application in agriculture. In agriculture and other productive sectors, unintentional injuries tend to occur with similar dynamics. A literature review was carried out to understand how occupational risks are addressed during game-based safety training in different productive sectors and how this can be transferred to agriculture. Literature about “serious game” and “gamification” as safety training methods was searched in WEB OF SCIENCE, SCOPUS, PUBMED and PsycINFO databases. In the forty-two publications retained, the computer was identified as the most adopted game support, whereas “points”, “levels”, “challenges” and “discovery” were the preferred game mechanics. Moreover, an association can be detected between the game mechanics and the elements developed in the game. Finally, during the game assessment, much positive feedback was collected and the games proved to be able to increase the operators’ skills and safety knowledge. In light of the results, insights are provided to develop an effective, satisfying and engaging safety game training for workers employed in agriculture. Games can be best used to learn and they are certain to improve over the next few years.

The global aviation sector has never had a greater crisis than what it is experiencing during the COVID-19 pandemic. While passenger numbers are growing, COVID-19 remains a threat. This interdisciplinary study maps airport passenger services digitalization research referring to passenger satisfaction. The study tracks the influence of touchless airport services, as well as global pandemic COVID-19, focusing on the safety and encouragement of airport passengers. Study aims to identify a gap between the level of expectation and satisfaction of Riga International Airport (RIX) passengers. An empirical survey was conducted on passengers who have experience of using airport services prior to and during the COVID-19. In total, 1315 questionnaires were analysed by employing a SERVQUAL model. This study can be used to create policy recommendations in order to implement the safety measures and other types of airport services focusing on further improvement during and after COVID-19. Article concludes that COVID-19 changed passenger habits significantly, it left long lasting impact on confidence, and willingness to travel has been tempered by concerns over the risks of catching COVID-19. The lessons learned of COVID-19 require accelerating new processes with less face-to-face (F2F) contact enabling and encouraging all passengers, despite age, gender, education, race, disability or other personal qualities, the right having safe and user-friendly services.

The Enhancement of OSH Training with an Augmented Reality-Based App

Recent advances in training approaches and technology have identified the need to improve training in the field of occupational safety and health (OSH). While many researchers have examined the use of augmented reality (AR) and technology-based classrooms to enhance conventional training practices, quantitative evidence for their effectiveness and motivational im-pact remains scarce. To contribute to filling this research gap, an AR-based application was developed to enhance OSH training. The enhanced training session was conducted in a closed, safe environment with ten participants with no background in OSH. Pre-test, post-test, and instructional material motivation surveys (IMMS) using a five-point Likert scale were deployed to measure the effectiveness and motivational impact in accordance with the respective ARCS factors. The empirical results obtained show that partici-pants performed significantly better in the post-tests than in the pre-tests (mean = 14.60, s = 1.71, t(9) = –12.11 with p-value < 0.001). The IMMS re-sults show that the perceived motivation arising from the AR-based applica-tion resulted in the highest mean score for the satisfaction factor (4.80) fol-lowed by the relevance (4.65), confidence (4.60), and attention (4.55) fac-tors. The results of the evaluation suggest that the AR-based application boosted participants’ active learning behavior, engagement, and interest dur-ing the enhanced training session and produced a better learning outcome and experience.
