Siak River is the main river in the capital city of Riau Province, and it plays a vital role in the history and the development of the city of Pekanbaru. People use the river as the source of water, transportation, and even the traditional ceremony of Petang Megang, which indicates the close connection of Pekanbaru people with the river. The Siak riverside is the center of the city, with the old town, markets, settlements, and the royal house located near the river. The community's attachment to the river can be seen through Petang Megang, which is known as a tradition to clean and purify the body and soul to welcome the holy month of Ramadan. During Petang Megang, many people go to the river, perform mandi balimau and even hold competitions and festivals that attract tourists. This paper discusses how Petang Megang reflects the connection of local people to the river and influences the spatial form of the Siak riverside. The findings show that since there are some changes in the practice of Petang Megang, such as boat competition and music festivals, the government develops the Siak riverside not only to accommodate Petang Megang but also to attract tourists. Unfortunately, the development limit access of local people to the river.

Ice skating is a prominent winter sport, and ice rinks provide an excellent place for socio-family relation enhancement, which means that sports are indeed a great tool to enhance parents’ and children’s bond. Most ice rinks were built indoors in Southeast Asia since the climate is not suitable for outdoor-built facilities. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic raised a new challenge for this sport’s development. This study aims to determine whether an outdoor ice rink can be built in a tropical climate that also serves as a place for socio-family relationships to blossom. The method utilized is a research-based design where observational data from several ice rinks was interpreted into the notion of a healthy sports facility that is a synthetic ice rink with its technical advantages and unique atmosphere, setting an example of thoughtful design in correlation to a sport’s development. This innovative design concept offers a new attraction as open-air rinks add to the scenery, are energy-efficient, and are cost-effective since their maintenance is cheaper than mechanical, indoor ice rinks. ABSTRACT As one of the oldest cities in Indonesia, Palembang has a history related to the Musi river. The Musi River divides the city of Palembang into Ilir and Ulu. This river was known as a trade route in ancient times, so that many Chinese and Arab immigrants settled on the riverbank. In the Ulu, there are several village areas that are mostly inhabited by Arab residents, one of which is Assegaf Village. This study will specifically discuss the Assegaf village, especially its famous icon, the Alwi Assegaf ice factory. This factory is an integral part of the life chain of the Musi river. Many traditional fishermen rely on the ice factory and it is clear that the Alwi Assegaf ice factory has an impact and influence on residents. The purpose of this research is to explore further history, cultural ideas and actors who play a role in the Alwi Assegaf ice factory. It also aims to reveal the identity of the ice factory itself against the socio-economic conditions in Assegaf Village residents. The research method was carried out qualitatively in the form of interview, field observation and literature reviews. The elements discussed will use the ANT (Actor-Network Theory) method to obtain a mapping description of the actors involved in the daily production of the Alwi Assegaf ice factory. The contribution of this study can be used as a review of further research literature that focuses on actor-network theory analysis.
