“…This absence of “how-to” may seem bewildering but does allow for more personalized modes of coping and relational maintenance to emerge. The idea of reauthoring, both institutionally and personally, the idea of “doing family” (Andreasson & Johansson, 2019, p. 2) provides a conceptual framework for input from all invested constituents and a commitment to experimentation with differing modalities of connection-maintenance. The notion of reauthoring the social scripts around divorced fathers may address issues such as stepchild access, custody, visitation, and support, none of which are legally prescribed for stepfathers (Zeleznikow & Zeleznikow, 2015).…”

“…While it has been found that children are not worse off in a stepfamily environment than a nuclear family (Saint-Jacques et al, 2016), the handling of the marital dissolution has important outcomes (Becher et al, 2019; Jensen & Weller, 2019; Shafer, Jensen, & Holmes, 2017) in terms of influencing whether the divorcing process is experienced as discrete (time-limited) or chronic (lifelong) stress. Ongoing connections with two parents or adults through and after the divorce seem predictive of the children’s more successful academical performance, more emotional stability, leadership aspirations, and protection from the negative effects of poverty (Andreasson & Johansson, 2019; Coleman et al, 2015). Conversely, marital dissolution that deprives the children of the dual adult caregivers has been linked to lower psychological well-being, poorer self-concept, poorer social relationships, and diminished academic performances among the children (DeLongis & Zwicker, 2017), emphasizing the need for ongoing post-stepfamily dissolution contact with the now-absent stepparent.…”

Although it is generally acknowledged that both fathers and mothers in uence their children's health and lives [12][13][14][15][16], the father's role has rarely been examined. In most studies of child healthcare, the father's mental health are not included at all [1,3,6,7,[9][10][11].…”
