Becker nevus syndrome

Abstract: The new term Becker nevus syndrome is proposed for a phenotype characterized by the presence of a particular type of organoid epithelial nevus showing hyperpigmentation, increased hairiness and hamartomatous augmentation of smooth muscle fibers, and other developmental defects such as ipsilateral hypoplasia of breast and skeletal anomalies including scoliosis, spina bifida occulta, or ipsilateral hypoplasia of a limb. The present review includes 23 cases that can be categorized under this designation. The Beck… Show more

“…Becker nevus syndrome is a rare malformation that was first described by Happle and Koopman in 1997 [1]. It is the association of Becker nevus, a skin lesion characterized by circumscribed hyperpigmentation with an irregular outline and hypertrichosis [6], with unilateral hypoplasia of breast or other cutaneous, muscular or skeletal defects.…”

“…Citons également le naevus de Becker [22] : il s'agit d'un hamartome avec une tâche café au lait, qui peut être irrégulière, inhomogène, pileuse. Elle peut s'accompagner d'une hypoplasie mammaire ainsi que d'autres malformations loco-régionales notamment squelettiques (Fig.…”

“…Regarding localization, the shoulder is more commonly involved, however, other anatomical areas may be affected [5]. BN may be associated to a smooth muscle hamartoma [6], breast hypoplasia, unilateral or ipsilateral pectoralis major aplasia, ipsilateral limb shortening, ipsilateral foot enlargement, spina bifida, scoliosis, pectus carinatum, localized lipoatrophy, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, polythelia, and accessory scrotum [7][8][9][10][11]. BN is considered a benign melanocytic skin condition and malignant transformation is a controversial issue [12]; nevertheless, periodical clinical and dermoscopy assessment are mandatory.…”
