Beam Dynamics in Synchrotrons

Abstract: This paper gives an overview of particle dynamics in synchrotrons and storage rings. Both the transverse and the longitudinal plane are described in a linear approximation. The main emphasis is on giving an introduction to the basic concepts and allowing the reader to deduce the main parameters of a machine, based on some simple scaling laws.
