Abstract

Grandpa would get out of the Buick to stretch himself and would look back to the western sky and wonder just out into the air if his cows were maybe getting rained on or about to maybe get rained on and he would indicate what clouds he could see and say how they had rain in them, how they were purely full of water, and Aunt Bessie would step out of the Ford to stretch herself and look off to the west and would say just out into the air how she did not see any clouds anywhere with any water in them that Grandpa would say a thing back to that Bessie herself would talk after that Grandpa would say a thing back to again (pp. 143-144). One of the risks of reading this book is that it will make adults more self-conscious about what they say and do when children are around. It is well worth the risk.
