BDS Precise Point Positioning for Seismic Displacements Monitoring: Benefit from the High-Rate Satellite Clock Corrections

Abstract: In order to satisfy the requirement of high-rate high-precision applications, 1 Hz BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) satellite clock corrections are generated based on precise orbit products, and the quality of the generated clock products is assessed by comparing with those from the other analysis centers. The comparisons show that the root mean square (RMS) of clock errors of geostationary Earth orbits (GEO) is about 0.63 ns, whereas those of inclined geosynchronous orbits (IGSO) and medium Earth orbi… Show more

“…However, it only derives relative coseismic displacements with respect to a reference station, which might be subject to quaking during a large seismic event. PPP technique provides Sensors 2021, 21, 334 2 of 17 absolute coseismic displacements under a global reference frame without requiring a local GNSS reference station [16][17][18][19]. Nevertheless, it has limited accuracy because of unresolved integer-cycle ambiguities [20].…”

“…In addition, the abnormal condition of the satellite position would occur because of the impact of various perturbations while running the orbit. The earlier the maneuver is detected, the sooner the strategies of positioning and orbit determination can be adjusted [ 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 ]. The information on satellite maneuvers and anomalies is not available publicly, and are broadcasted on a time-interval basis (GPS: 2 h, BDS: 1 h).…”

“…Standalone GNSS techniques, such as multi-constellation [ 5 ], carrier-phase-based GNSS [ 6 , 7 ] and tracking loop design [ 8 , 9 ], improve positioning accuracy and availability. GNSS generally integrates with other sensors, for instance Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) [ 10 , 11 ], composing GNSS/Inertial Navigation System (INS) integration architectures, to better adapt to some GNSS restricted environments, for instance urban canyons and tunnels.…”
