Battery hydrocyclones for chemical plant for treating circulating water and effluents

Abstract

Standard series have been formulated and routine production has begun for several types of battery hydrocyclone based on units filled from plastics or metal and for use in a wide range of flow rates and physicomechanical properties of suspensions. The technical characteristics of these are given, and their advantages are demonstrated.Standard series of hydrocyclones have been developed in metallic and plastic formulations [1], so one can select a unit of the appropriate size for providing the required separation performance in treating effluents with due allowance for the corrosion and erosion aspects of the medium and the temperature. To provide the necessary throughput while retaining the separation performance, the individual hydrocyclones are assembled in batteries.The growing demand for battery hydrocyclones with various designs has led to the need to develop standard series. Our two institutions have collaborated in devising standard series and initiating the routine production of several types on the basis of single hydrocyclones made of plastic or metal, which are intended for use in a wide range of flow rates and suspension physicomechanical properties.The design (Fig. 1) includes the collector for the initial suspension 1, a group of plastic or metal hydrocyclones 2 arranged along the collectors, a collector for the separated suspension 3, and a collector for the clarified liquid 4. The output holes from the individual hydrocyclones are connected to the corresponding collectors by the pipes 5 and flexible transparent hoses 6.The apparatus works as follows.
