Spinach and coriander are cultivated using traditional method by majority of marginal and small landholders. No seed drill is available for sowing of these vegetable crops. The objective of present study was to provide such a seeder that can reduce manual work done by farmers. An attempt was made to develop electric power (e-power) walk behind seeder at ICAR-IARI, New Delhi in year 2015. The major workload was shared by e-power. The unit consisted of a DC geared motor, batteries, power transmission unit, independent seeding units with vertical cell fed metering mechanism, swinging handle and frame. The seeder was tested for spinach, coriander and wheat seeds. Lab study on sticky belt indicated that wheat seed showed better uniformity in distribution followed by spinach and coriander. From field studies, output with e-powered 350W seeder was 1130 m2/h at a speed of about 2.9 km/h with field efficiency of 90.3% for tested seeds. The average draft requirement of machine was 106.1N. The developed equipment provided 2.5 times more output than manually operated seed drill with reduced drudgery by 2.6 times in terms of muscular force requirement.

The article describes the formation of longitudinal and transverse slopes in Bukhara, Navoi, Khorezm, Kashkadarya regions and the Republic of Karakalpakstan. To date, sufficient research has not been conducted to create a new design, expand the capabilities and substantiate the parameters of the working bodies, although longitudinal thresholds are formed with the help of the developed devices, but in ensuring the quality and durability of the formed longitudinal thresholds. In this article, a theoretical study was carried out based on the parameters of the working body of the capacitor of longitudinal overlaps between rows of porous ones. As a result of theoretical studies, it was determined that the angle of inclination of the conical part of the capacitor cathode of the device should be 38 °, the total width of the cathode is 40 cm, the width of the conical part is 15 cm, the diameter of the cathode is at least 20.05 cm, the large diameter of the conical part 43.48 cm. As a result of the use of a device for the formation of a longitudinal bollard in the aisles of cotton, equipped with a sealing working body, a 46.2% reduction in manual labor was achieved, labor productivity increased 1.5 times.

Development and evaluation of a battery operated ginger (Zingiber officinale) washer for small and marginal farmers

Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) is a commercial crop grown for its aromatic rhizomes which is used both as a spice and medicine. Being a root crop and owing to its physical structure, ginger rhizomes contain heavy soil load which makes washing as an important and prime post-harvest operation. Manual washing of ginger is a laborious and time consuming process. An experiment was conducted at the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi during 2020 with an objective to develop a continuous rotary drum type battery operated ginger washer and to evaluate its performance.The machine consists of the frame, feeding and discharge chutes, rotary drum with internal flights, pressure pump and nozzle assembly, battery and a drive unit. The developed washer was evaluated at different feed rate and residence time to appraise the washing efficiency, microbial washing efficiency, bruise index and colour of washed ginger. Increase in feed rate significantly reduced the washing and microbial efficiencies but increased mechanical damage. Washing and microbial efficiencies increased with increase in residence time.Significant difference in the colour was found between washed and unwashed ginger.The best set of conditions under which the washer could be operated was 150 kg/h and 25 sec, at which the machine was found to have mechanical washing efficiency of 92.48%, microbial washing efficiency of 93.18% and 4.54% bruise index. Besides eliminating drudgery of washing operation, the developed washer was found to save time, water and operating cost as compared to manual washing.
