Bath efficacy of sodium hypochlorite, oxytetracycline dihydrate and chloramphenicol against bacterial black disease in fairy shrimpBranchinella thailandensis

Abstract: To control black disease infecting fairy shrimp Branchinella thailandensis, the effects of concentrations and exposure time to three effective antimicrobials, which inhibited the pathogens in vitro, were evaluated. Exposure to sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) caused a great toxicological response in the shrimp, 100% mortality was observed within 30 min-2 h at 5-20 lg mL À1 . For oxytetracycline dihydrate (OTC) and chloramphenicol (CP), shortterm exposure to four high concentrations up to 5 h and long-term exposure … Show more

“…This diet was also given to rainbow trout ( Salmo gairdneri ) and it provided a reddish pigmentation to the skin and muscle (Choubert & Luquet ). Even though two species of fairy shrimp ( Streptocephalus sirindhornae and Branchinella thailandensis ) have been commercially harvested as food for ornamental fish and freshwater shrimp in Thailand since 2004 (Sriputhorn & Sanoamuang ; Saejung, Hatai & Sanoamuang ), no fairy shrimp meal is available in the market yet. However, the use of fairy shrimp meal in aquaculture is expected to be implemented in the future.…”
