Batch study, equilibrium and kinetics of adsorption of naphthalene using waste tyre rubber granules

Abstract: The potential use of waste tyre rubber granules (WTRG) for the batch adsorption of naphthalene from aqueous solutions was investigated. The effect of various operational variables such as contact time, initial naphthalene concentration, adsorbent dose, size of adsorbent particles, and temperature of solution on the adsorption capacity of WTRG was evaluated. The adsorption of naphthalene by WTRG was a fast kinetic process with an equilibrium contact time of 60 min. A low temperature (5°C), small adsorbent parti… Show more

“…Moreover, it must be highlighted that the Damköhler number Da was set at 10 −5 for all the simulations, which is a relevant value for adsorption of Naphthalene. Indeed, from available literature data [12][13][14]30], the Damköhler number for adsorption of naphthalene on various solids can be estimated in the range 10 −14 -10 −3 . However, it was shown in [32] that the phenomena observed for the adsorption reaction near the LCEP are qualitatively the same whatever the value of Da.…”

“…SCF potential applications have known an increasing involvement and significant progress in a wide range of industrial technologies, for instance in various pharmaceutics sectors related to natural substances extraction of biological interest [1][2][3], agrofood fields [4][5][6][7], energy [8], and waste treatment sectors [9][10][11][12][13][14]. Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2 ) significance has grown fairly quickly in the past decades.…”

“…In the case of the adsorption of organic compounds, the extraction of aromatic hydrocarbons, among others, has been evaluated. According to Aisien et al (2014), the styrene aromatic ring, main component of tire rubber, favors the interaction between it and the naphthalene present in aqueous solution.…”

“…With reference to literature studies, it has been found that the Damköhler number for the adsorption of Naphthalene and other solutes such as toluene or benzene can vary from 10 -3 to 10 -14 [40][41][42][43][44]. The Damköhler number was estimated using the available data in each research work.…”
