In this study, the seasonal rainfall distribution in Türkiye and its 25 main watersheds were estimated, and potentials were calculated and analyzed. Empirical Bayesian kriging (EBK) and ordinary kriging (OK) methods were applied in interpolations. The calculations were made through EBK, which provided the highest estimation accuracy in all seasons. In winter, which is the season with the highest rainfall, Türkiye’s rainfall depth is 208.8 mm, and its volume is 162.87 billion m3. In summer, the season with the lowest rainfall, Türkiye’s rainfall depth is 61.7 mm, and its volume is 48.13 billion m3. The watersheds with the highest rainfall depth are Antalya (480.1 mm) in winter, Ceyhan (222.8 mm) in spring, and East Black Sea in summer (197.5 mm) and autumn (299.7 mm). Conversely, the watersheds with the lowest precipitation depth are Aras (74.9 mm) in winter, Little Meander (16.5 mm) in summer, and Konya in spring (131.3 mm) and autumn (86.2 mm). In summer, rainfall shortage is observed in all watersheds in the Central and Southern parts of Türkiye. As we go from the north to the south, the watersheds’ seasonal rainfall depths and shares become more irregular and variable.

Yağış deseninin ve potansiyelinin doğru belirlenmesi su kaynakları yönetimi, planlaması ve geliştirilmesi açısından çok önemlidir. Yağışlar zamana ve yere göre en fazla değişkenlik gösteren iklim elemanıdır. Bu sebeple yağış ölçümlerinde diğer iklim elemanlarından daha sık ölçüm ağına ihtiyaç duyulur. Bu çalışmada yağış ölçer ağı sıklığı ve konumunun Antalya Havzasında yağış deseni, miktarı ve hacmine olan etkisinin belirlenmesi hedeflenmiştir. Bu maksatla çalışmada iki farklı veri seti kullanılmıştır. Veri Seti-1’de sadece Meteoroloji Genel Müdürlüğü (MGM) istasyonlarına ait yağış verileri kullanılmıştır. Veri Seti-2’de MGM ve Devlet Su İşleri Genel Müdürlüğü (DSİ) istasyonlarına ait yağış verileri birlikte kullanılmıştır. Veri setlerinin mekânsal enterpolasyonunda, çok yaygın bir kullanım alanına sahip olan jeoistatistik Ordinary Kriging (OK) yöntemi uygulanmıştır. Veri setlerinin sonuçları çapraz doğrulama yöntemiyle ölçülmüş ve Ortalama Mutlak Hata (MAE), Ortalama Karekök Hatası (RMSE), Belirleyicilik Katsayısı (R2) ve Nash-Sutcliffe etkinlik katsayısı (NSE) ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Veri Seti-1 ile NSE: 0.64, R2: 0,64, MAE: 123,75 ve RMSE: 145,83; Veri Seti-2 ile NSE: 0,77, R2: 0,77, MAE: 111,55 ve RMSE: 135,22 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Veri Seti-1 ile karşılaştırıldığında Veri Seti-2’nin hata miktarları daha düşük, doğruluğu ve çalışma alanını temsil etmesi daha yüksektir. MGM ve DSİ istasyonlarının birleştirilerek kullanılması çalışma alanında istasyon ağı sıklığı ve homojenliği sağlamıştır. Bu uygulama enterpolasyon metodunun da başarısını artırmıştır. Havzanın alansal ortalama yağış miktarı MGM istasyonlarıyla 763 mm, Veri Seti-2 istasyonlarıyla 887,1 mm olarak hesaplanmıştır. DSİ yağış istasyonu verilerinin kullanımı Antalya Havzanın yağış deseni ve potansiyelinde büyük farklılıklar oluşturmuştur.

Analysis of Monthly Precipitation at the Basin Scale in Türkiye

Basin-based water management strategy is one of the necessary instruments for the protection and sustainable use of water resources against climate change. In this paper, the monthly precipitation distributions of the 25 major basins in Türkiye were produced, and amounts and volumes were computed and analyzed. Only annual modeling and assessments of precipitation may hide months with precipitation shortages. Empirical Bayesian Kriging (EBK), Ordinary Kriging (OK), and Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) were implemented in interpolation. EBK outperformed in all months and calculations were based on the EBK. The month with the highest precipitation potential in Türkiye is December (77.9 mm, 60.77 billion m3), and the month with the lowest precipitation potential is August (13.8 mm, 10.76 billion m3). In the basins, the monthly precipitation amounts range between 2.7 mm and 185.2 mm, and the volumes range between 0.02 billion m3 and 13.24 billion m3. The basins with the highest precipitation depth were determined as the East Black Sea, Antalya, Asi, and Ceyhan, and the lowest as the Small Menderes, Konya, and Tigris-Euphrates in different months. The monthly precipitation patterns and potentials of the basins vary widely. In May, June, July, August, and September, when water, particularly agricultural irrigation, is required the most, the 20 basins, except for the 5 located in Northern Türkiye precipitation shortage was determined.
