Base‐free synthesis of bio‐derived 2,5‐furandicarboxylic acid using SBA‐15 supported heteropoly acids in ionic liquids

Abstract: 2,5-Furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) is a green and renewable substitute to terephthalic acid (TPA), the fundamental monomer of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic. This work investigated novel supported Keggin phosphormolybdic acids (HPMs) for the synthesis of FDCA from 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) in imidazole ionic liquids.
