“…The model was checked for zero-inflation, normality, dispersion, and heteroskedasticity using the R package DHARMa (Hartig 2022), with no evidence of model assumption violations. We evaluated predictor significance with a type II analysis of variance test in the R package car (Fox & Weisberg 2018). While the data were modeled on the log scale, they were backtransformed and presented on the response scale using the function "ggpredict" in the R package ggeffects (Lüdecke 2018).…”

“…Fungicide amendments, specifically, can greatly increase emergence (Hoose et al 2022) by protecting seeds from ubiquitous fungal pathogens that target seeds during the time between fall sowing and spring germination (Gornish et al 2015). However, encrusting seeds with fungicides has only been found to increase emergence in field experiment settings when precipitation is above normal (Hoose et al 2022), and in some cases, fungicides do not improve emergence and establishment (Gornish et al 2015; Fund et al 2019; Hoose et al 2022). Further work is needed to understand the conditions under which fungicide amendments are most likely to improve seedling establishment.…”

“…Naturally complex landscapes typically have suboptimal growing conditions for plants. Chemical applications like soil surfactants (Madsen et al 2012;Madsen et al 2016), physical structures like snow fences (Fund et al 2019), and habitat preparation like mulching and increasing planting surface area (Chambers 2000) help increase soil moisture and seedling survival. Additionally, clustering seeds into a single pellet (agglomerative seeding) can provide seedlings enough force to emerge from underneath soil crusts that harden in dry conditions (Madsen et al 2012).…”
