Baryonic popcorn

Abstract: In the large Nc limit cold dense nuclear matter must be in a lattice phase. This applies also to holographic models of hadron physics. In a class of such models, like the generalized Sakai-Sugimoto model, baryons take the form of instantons of the effective flavor gauge theory that resides on probe flavor branes. In this paper we study the phase structure of baryonic crystals by analyzing discrete periodic configurations of such instantons. We find that instanton configurations exhibit a series of "popcorn" tr… Show more

“…This phase diagram has also been studied in the presence of baryonic matter represented by sources at the tip of the D8 branes [59], and refinements involving extended, non-point-like baryons have been studied in [60][61][62][63]. Also a very interesting attempt [64] has been made to find a holographic realization of the so-called quarkyonic phase [65,66] within the confined phase.…”

“…There is a wealth of works related to the interpretation of the baryon as a holographic instanton [1][2][3], the QCD currents sourced by the baryon [4][5][6] and even high-density baryonic matter [7][8][9]. Unfortunately though, the studies of the interplay between baryon physics and physics of chiral symmetry breaking is undeservedly rare: Ref.…”

“…There have been interesting holographic studies of some such spatially modulated phases -notably, studies of emergent helical order [22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30], stripe order [31][32][33][34][35][36], and more elaborate orders [37][38][39][40]. One largely open problem is to give simple analytical examples of phases realizing or even combining the various properties mentioned above (e.g.…”
