Publication metrics have become crucial to measure the productivity and impact of individuals and organizations for highlighting their influence upon the knowledge world. This study aims to present a bibliometric analysis of the top two percent highly cited Library and Information Science (LIS) researchers in the Stanford University list of the top two percent researchers of various disciplines published in 2021. We have used the bibliometric method to analyze 254 highly cited LIS researchers. The findings show male dominance and female underrepresentation in LIS research. Leydesdorff, Loet is the most highly cited researcher of the LIS field. The Amsterdam School of Communications Research, Netherlands, is the most highly cited organization of LIS based on the highly cited researchers affiliated with it. The majority of LIS researchers belong to USA and UK. There is a meager contribution of Asian, Australian, and African countries producing highly cited LIS researchers. Highly cited LIS researchers are more familiar with publishing research in information retrieval, information seeking, and bibliometrics. Positions of researchers at different ranks by different measures depict their productivity, impact, h- index, and a composite score. A strong correlation exists between total publications and total citations. The study, in its nature, is unique and will provide an insight for young and emerging researchers for selection of research direction, persons for research collaboration, and a motivation to invest more efforts for impactful research.

Peer review is an integral part of contemporary scholarly publishing, especially journal publishing. Work submitted by scholars from all parts of the world is subjected to it. This includes submissions by scholars from the Global South, who wish to publish in “international” journals or in local journals which follow the same model. These authors may not be native English speakers and may be unfamiliar with the conventions of Western scholarship. Many of them conduct research and write their manuscripts under challenging circumstances. They may find it difficult to comply with the requirements of the journals to which they submit their articles. Their manuscripts quite often pose challenges to the peer reviewers. The purpose of this article is to provide some background on scholarly publishing in the Global South and the challenges those colleagues face, and to outline what this may mean for the role of the reviewer.

Geographical diversity of management and organization research

Management and organization studies have been born over one hundred years ago as primarily a North American discipline. The current study, based on articles published in 88 quality journals between 1980 and 2020 aims at discovering whether the level of internalization of management scholarship changed over the last four decades. I find that the geographical concentration of authorships remains extremely high (Gini coefficient 0.89 for 1980 vs 0.87 for 2020), despite the number of participating countries increasing from 35 to 91. Most of the world (Asia, Africa, South America and Eastern Europe) inhabited by 6.8 billion people is still strongly underrepresented in the management literature, while the most productive nations increased their output. The growth of publications by non-North American authors was to a large extent driven by cooperation with North American scholars, especially in the case of Asia. The use of English as the native language explains most of the variance in national output, with use of a different language associated with 78% drop in the number of published papers, controlling for GDP per capita and population size. However, the analysis of citation rates for papers co-authored and not co-authored by North American scholars shows that the rates converge for all types of cooperation, controlling for authors count, affiliations count, and Journal Impact Factor. I conclude that management research becomes more internationalized, but it remains predominantly a North American enterprise, which brings about a number of challenges.
