Abstract: BackgroundOver the last 20 years, behavioral addictions (e.g., addictions to gambling, playing video games, work, etc.) have become more accepted among both public and scientific communities. “…However, gathering a large number of treatment-seeking females is extremely difficult, as we already mentioned earlier. We believe that this difficulty is also the reason why this study is one of the few studies done on actual treatment-seeking women and the first one investigating factors leading to treatment seeking, as previous studies focused on diagnostic ( Briken et al., 2007 ) and personality differences between treatment-seeking men and women ( Reid et al., 2012 ), as well as the role of shame ( Dhuffar & Griffiths, 2014 ) and difficulties in obtaining treatment ( Dhuffar & Griffiths, 2016 ). “…Despite Kafka's (2010) Psychiatric Association, 2013) due to the lack of high quality studies examining hypersexuality and a variety of other reasons (e.g., Kafka, 2010;Reid, 2015;Reid & Kafka, 2014;Stark, Kruse, Klucken, Strahler, & Wehum-Osinsky, 2017). Furthermore, most studies have focused on male samples with HB, with females often being neglected (e.g., Dhuffar & Griffiths, 2016;Montgomery-Graham, 2017;Reid, Garos, & Carpenter, 2011;Yeagley, Hickok, & Bauermeister, 2014). The role of sexual orientation in hypersexuality research is another relevant demographic factor that has received little attention in research to date with a few exceptions (e.g., Cooper, Delmonico, & Burg, 2000;Missildine, Feldstein, Punzalan, & Parsons, 2005).…”
