Barium‐Doped Zinc Oxide Thin Films as Highly Efficient and Reusable Photocatalysts

Abstract: In this study, the effect of Ba doping content on the photocatalytic activity of (Zn1‐xBaxO (ZBO); x=0 to 0.2) thin films is investigated. The efficiency of ZBO photocatalyst for the decolorization of Rhodamine B (RhB) is found to be optimum at x=0.1. The Zn0.9Ba0.1O film exhibits an efficiency of ≈ 96% at an irradiation time of 60 min. The high photocatalytic activity of Ba doped ZnO films is attributed to the high efficient generation and separation of photo‐induced charge carriers as evident from photocurr… Show more

“…Moreover, Figure 7C exhibits two peaks centered at the binding energy of 405.08 and 412.52 eV related to Cd 3d 5/2 and Cd 3d 3/2 which indicate the existence of Cd 2+ ions in Cd, Ba co‐doped ZnO nanorods 36 . Furthermore, the peaks noted at 783.09 and 794.54 eV in the Ba 3d core level spectrum (Figure 7D) accord well with the binding energies of the respective Ba 3d 3/2 and Ba 3d 5/2 and designate the substitution of Ba 2+ into the ZnO matrix 29,37 . Hence, XPS analysis successfully demonstrates the inclusion of Cd 2+ and Ba 2+ ions into the ZnO lattice.…”

“…Interestingly, a slight The shift originated from the change in strain in the host lattice with the addition of the heteroatom. 26 Furthermore, the presence of the Se element and state in α-Fe 2 O 3 was confirmed and analyzed based on its XPS features. The Se-doped α-Fe 2 O 3 with optimal Se doping (vide infra) was used for the XPS study.…”

“…As expected, E g modes in the Raman spectrum of Se-doped α-Fe 2 O 3 shifted toward higher wavenumber compared to undoped α-Fe 2 O 3 . The shift originated from the change in strain in the host lattice with the addition of the heteroatom …”

“…The ratio of current under the light condition to that under dark condition (I light /I dark ) at 1.5 V is found to be higher for the BMA heterostructure as shown in Figure 4d, further confirming its improved charge carrier generation and separation.
