Bar Code Recognition in Complex Scenes by Camera Phones

Abstract: Mobile phones with a camera function are capable of capturing image and processing tasks. Quick Response Code has been widely used in industrial information tagging applications where high data capacity, robust error corrections are required. It has become a kind of mobile 2D barcode which is used widely in China and Japan. In deal with the influence by the different light conditions and noise, a novel recognition algorithm is given in this paper. First, we combine filter, rough location and binarization to er… Show more

“…The difficulty of 2D barcode reader for camera‐based solution lies in high noise, non‐uniform illumination, skews distortion, and optical blur. That is why filtration and normalization of skewed shape is done with the help of frequency . The detection of rotated 2D barcode by calculating the rectangular sum of integral images is also workable but these algorithm‐based approaches are unfavorable because of their cost in time for fast prototyping are much higher.…”

“…There are currently available a variety of special programs for this purpose that run in camera-equipped mobile smart phones [20]. These programs can decode the information stored in the 2D codes printed on the patient’s bracelet, display it on the phone’s screen, and even activate other functions, such as dialing a telephone number, or using the smart phone’s Internet connection to send email and to remotely link to EHR (Electronic Health Records) data bases to retrieve, or input, patient’s specific medical information.…”
