Bamboo-Structured Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Nanotube Coencapsulating Cobalt and Molybdenum Carbide Nanoparticles: An Efficient Bifunctional Electrocatalyst for Overall Water Splitting

Abstract: Developing efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts based on inexpensive and earth-abundant materials for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is essential for large-scale renewable energy storage and conversion processes but remains a major challenge. In this study, a bamboo-structured nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube coencapsulated with metallic cobalt and Mo2C nanoparticles (Co–Mo2C@NCNT) is designed and synthesized by a successive pyrolysis approach and demonstrated to be an e… Show more

“…In their high‐resolution XPS spectra (e.g., C 1s, Ni 2p, and TM 2p or 3d), the peaks at 283.5, 283.6, and 283.4 eV are assigned to CNi in the Ni‐GF/Cr 3 C 2 (Figure S21a–c, Supporting Information), Ni‐GF/Fe 3 C (Figure S21d–f, Supporting Information), and Ni‐GF/Mo 2 C (Figure S21g,h, Supporting Information), respectively. [ 45–48 ] In their SEM images, uniform nanoflakes are noticed for three catalysts (Figure S22a–c, Supporting Information). The yellow circles (Figure S22d–f, Supporting Information) are the adsorbed TM atoms.…”

“…Beyond that, a broad peak around 26 • , corresponding to graphitized carbon (002) diffraction (Hao et al, 2017;Liang et al, 2019). And compared with NC, the C(002) diffraction peak strengthened, indicating the increased graphitization of the carbon in the presence of cobalt nanoparticles (Ai et al, 2018).…”
