BAMline—A real-life sample materials research beamline

Ana Guilherme Buzanich,
Martin Radtke,
Kirill V. Yusenko
et al.

Abstract: With increasing demand and environmental concerns, researchers are exploring new materials that can perform as well or better than traditional materials while reducing environmental impact. The BAMline, a real-life sample materials research beamline, provides unique insights into materials’ electronic and chemical structure at different time and length scales. The beamline specializes in x-ray absorption spectroscopy, x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, and tomography experiments. This enables real-time optimizat… Show more

“…15,16 With dispersive XAS the advantage for characterizing catalysts at work is that the whole energy range interacts with the sample and, with our setup, a large beam of a few mm 2 allows the extraction of time-, space-and energy-resolved information in a scanningless mode. 17,18 One particular catalytic conversion where in situ analysis is of special interest is methane dehydroaromatization (MDA). 19 This reaction allows the production of ethylene, light aromatics and hydrogen at high temperatures (Z600 1C) in the absence of oxidants.…”

“…X-ray absorption near edge structure spectroscopy (XANES) measurements were performed at the BAMline (BESSY-II, Helmholtz Centre Berlin for Materials and Energy Berlin, Germany). 57 The beam was monochromatized using a double-crystal monochromator (DCM) with a Si crystal with [111] orientation. The size of the beam was 3 mm (h) × 1 mm (v).…”

“…To evaluate and compare the metal coordination environments in different phases obtained through synthesis, XANES (near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure) and EXAFS (extended X-ray absorption fine-structure) spectroscopy measurements were performed at the BAM line (BESSY-II, Helmholtz Centre Berlin for Materials and Energy Berlin, Germany). 40…”
