Balloon-assisted Transcatheter arterial embolization using N-butyl cyanoacrylate for iatrogenic arterial bleeding by groin puncture: a new technology

Abstract: Background: Balloon-assisted transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) using n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) and lipiodol (Lp) mixture is a new endovascular treatment technique for iatrogenic arterial bleeding by groin puncture. It is less invasive compared to surgical repair, and NBCA migration into the circulation can be prevented by temporary balloon occlusion of the parent artery without ultrasound-guidance. This study aimed to report on the technical aspects and evaluate the efficacy and safety of fluoroscop… Show more

“…When a pseudoaneurysm occurs in the ASPDA or PSPDA, blood flow through another vessel should be maintained to prevent reduced hepatic arterial flow. BACE prevents coil migration by temporarily occluding the artery with a balloon stent [ 12 , 13 ]. Selective coil embolization of the target area reduces the incidence of complications.…”

“…Balloon-assisted coil embolization (BACE) utilizes a balloon stent when performing coil embolization [ 12 , 13 ]. BACE is effective for selective embolization of the anterior (ASPDA) or the posterior superior pancreaticoduodenal artery (PSPDA).…”

“…Recently, Ueda et al reported the efficacy of balloon-assisted TAE with NBCA for iatrogenic arterial bleeding caused by groin puncture [8] . The authors successfully treated one external iliac artery injury with extravasation, two pseudoaneurysms in the common iliac artery, and two pseudoaneurysms in the femoral artery with this method, and it may also be applied in our case.…”

“…Traditionally, open surgical repair has been the standard management method for failed cases of ultrasound-guided compression. In recent years, endovascular interventional procedures, such as stent graft placement and balloon tamponade, have become more common treatment options because they are less invasive [3][4][5][6][7][8].…”

“…Real-time and continuous monitoring of vascular embolism is of great significance in preclinical research. [28] The experiment process is shown in Figure 8a. To highlight the capability of the pre-implant in embolization, we first injected the pre-implant into the abdominal aorta with a syringe.…”
