As a country that has more than half of the country's total territorial waters, Indonesia is highly dependent on shipping activities. Therefore, knowledge of policy updates for each ship from IMO must also be taken into account, one of which is the policy regarding the Ballast Water Management System, which requires every ship to be installed with a Ballast Water Treatment System in order to achieve the goal of a green environment in voyage areas by inhibiting the spread of microorganisms that endanger the area that is caused by ballast water. This regulatory update then creates problems, especially for ships that have been operating for a long time, because the ship has to comply with the standards for D-1 and then also have to comply with the D-2 standards according to the time specified in the convention. So, this review article will discuss the solution to the issues with retrofitting ballast water treatment systems as the addition of a new system to the existing system on a ship that has sailed and pay attention to conceptual aspects consisting of considerations and operations to find the type of ballast water treatment that suits each ship's needs by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of each technology type method. There is also consideration for several stages that are commonly used to determine the type of treatment, starting with assessment and planning requirements, selection of space, compliance with BWMS regulations, selection of the ballast water treatment system method, engineering drawing, installation planning, and commissioning. Apart from that, several related innovation considerations were also discussed, including the development of alternative treatment technology, which has the potential for efficiency both in operational aspects and safety standards. Based on research developments, retrofitting the Ballast Water Treatment System with the ultra-violet (UV) treatment is well known as the common treatment beside the electrolysis treatment. The results obtained show that the ultra-violet (UV) method is one of the most efficient treatments when viewed from the way it works and the time duration for the treatment process. This proves that ultra-violet treatment can produce maximum efficiency if the selection of needs and consideration of maximized aspects also exceed the safety aspect as well.

Meningkatnya aktivitas kapal di Pelabuhan Surabaya akan mengakibatkan tingginya risiko pencemaran terhadap lingkungan. Pencemaran dapat terjadi pada lingkungan laut, darat, dan udara. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis dampak dari pencemaran yang diakibatkan oleh operasional kapal di Pelabuhan Surabaya dan strategi penanganannya sesuai dengan peraturan pemerintah, International Maritime Organization dan Marine Pollution. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah studi literatur dan jenis penelitian ini adalah deskripsi kuantitatif. Jenis Penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan menggunakan rancangan penelitian deskriptif observasional. Dampak yang terjadi di lingkungan laut akibat kegiatan operasional pelabuhan disebabkan oleh air balas dan emisi NOx. Aktivitas kapal yang tinggi akan meningkatkan pembuangan air balas di laut. Total hasil pembuangan emisi NOx yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini selama 3 hari adalah 1026,25 Kg, 429,34 Kg, dan 452,22 Kg. Emisi gas buang yang dikeluarkan rata- rata berada di atas ambang batas. Batas kualitas udara yang tergolong untuk dikatakan berpotensi pencemaran adalah 12,51. Strategi yang dapat dilakukan dalam menangani permasalahan – permasalahan tersebut adalah dengan menerapkan BWMTS ( Ballast Water Management Treatment System ) dan filter mekanis untuk menangani air balas. Dalam menangani NOx dapat menerapkan metode EGR, SCR, dan Water Injection and Emulsion.

Queues are waiting for lines from customers to get service. The queue is caused by the needs of consumers to be served beyond the ability of service facilities, so consumers who come cannot immediately get service. Queue problems at ports often occur every day. Ship loading and unloading services is a queuing phenomenon in daily life. This queue can be caused by damage to the equipment that supports loading and unloading, labor, availability of warehouses, and the limited capacity of berths at berths and others. In maintaining optimal port services, it is necessary to avoid long waiting times and low queuing system utilities. Queues at the mooring service system occur due to mismatch between planning and realization. Waiting time for vessels inside and outside the port area is calculated using the simulation method in queuing theory so that it becomes a queuing model. Until finally, it produces the optimum berthing service system. Based on the simulation results obtained value, and which is much shorter than the conditions on realization. The potential causes of these conditions are divided into three factors, namely, internal factors, external factors, and weather factors.
