B~,~RI~G und namentlich yon BUCHN~R und seinen Schfilern ist es bekannt, da~ das normale Serum des l~Ienschen u n d vieler Tierarten im Reagensglas einen hemmenden Einflul~ auf das Wachstum yon Typhusbacfllen und anderen Bakterien hat. Jedoch hat das zahlreieh verSffentlichte Forsehungsmaterial noch keine einheitliche Deutung ergebenl Heute ~ wei~ man, dal~ dig verschiedenen SchutzmaBnahmen des Organismus sehr vielgestaltig sind. Neben den Alexinen BUCHNE~s spielen zweifellos noeh celluli~re Vorg~nge, Phagocytose durch Mikro-und Makrophagen und Einfliisse des retikuloendothelialen Systems eine Rolle. Abet dab auch die im normalen Serum vorhandene Alexin-oder Komplementwirkung nieht einem einzelnen Stoff, sondern einer Vielheit yon Substanzen ihre Entstehung verdankt, hat schon EHRLIC~ hervorgehoben.Es mul~ natiirlich beachtet werden, dal~ man die bactericiden Eigenschaften des Serums au~erhalb des Organismus studiert, und es ist vcrst~indlich, dal3 die in vitro vorgenommenen Untersuchungen nur einen Anhalt fiir die Serumbactericidie in vivo ergeben kiinnen.Zahlreictle Arbeiten befassen sich mit Versuchen, auf chemischem oder physikalischem Wege eine Steigerung der Bactericidie kiinstlich zu erreichen (BUCHNER, DRESEL und FREUND, HAHN, I~FEIF]~ER und ISSAEFF, 1PRAUSNITZ und I~EISSlqER 11. a.).-9
