“…Therapeutic Abs targeting PD‐1 on T cells have made great breakthroughs in clinical trials . In addition to T cells, PD‐1 was found on the surface of activated monocytes, natural killer cells, dendritic cells, and B cells . In hepatocellular carcinoma, PD‐1 hi Breg cells have been identified as a new B‐cell subset .…”

“…We have demonstrated that the combined expression of LAG-3 and CD49b on murine memory tissue-infiltrating CD4 + T cells and on human circulating memory lymphocytes allows the identification and isolation of a population of Tr1 cells (Gagliani et al, 2013b and Table 1). Since this initial observation, several studies confirmed that CD49b and LAG-3 allow to enrich for murine (Chien et al, 2017;Clemente-Casares et al, 2016;Hooper et al, 2017;Huang et al, 2017;Mascanfroni et al, 2015;Said et al, 2018;Xu et al, 2013;Yao et al, 2015) and human Tr1 cells (Andreani et al, 2014;Bacchetta et al, 2014;Farez et al, 2015;Kim et al, 2018;Koch et al, 2015 Naive CD4 + T cells can develop into Th1, Th2, Th17, and Tr1 cells. Some Th1, Th2, memory CD4 + T and Th17 cells can acquire a Tr1 cell phenotype and function when activated through their TCRs in the presence of specific cytokines and chemokines as depicted.…”

“…Several groups are attempting to identify and more precisely define the B cell subtype with suppressive properties among IL10-secreting B cells. We and others have shown that murine IL-10 + B cells with suppressive properties are CD9 + B cells ( 59 61 ). Similarly, Matsushita defined CD9/CD80 co-expression as a novel phenotypic parameter for both Breg subtypes MZ-B10 and B1-B10 cells ( 62 ), and CD9 is involved in the enhancement and maintenance of IL-10 secretion in murine and human antigen-presenting cells ( 23 , 31 ).…”
