Abstract:The bacterial mutation assay is a reliable and extensively used short‐term assay for initial screening of chemicals/drugs for their potential mutagenic/carcinogenic activity. But short‐term tests have their own advantages and limitations. This article presents an overview of the utilization of bacterial systems for mutagenic and carcinogenic chemicals.
