Bacterial inhibition ofOrobanche aegyptiacaandOrobanche cernuaradical elongation

Abstract: The ability of different bacteria to inhibit Orobanche radical elongation was examined. Seeds of Orobanche aegyptiaca Pers. and O. cernua Loefl. were induced to germinate with the Growth Regulator GR24 in the presence or absence of test bacterium. Radical lengths were estimated microscopically on a scale relative to seed length (0Á5 seed lengths) after 5 days of incubation at 258C. The results indicated that Pseudomonas aeruginosa QUBC1, P. fluorescens QUBC3, Bacillus atrophaeus QUBC16, and B. subtilis QUBC18 … Show more

“…Recently, Barghouthi and Salman [13] showed sever, lesser and no inhibitory effect of array of bacteria on broomrape plant growth. The number of DRBs belongs to the genus of Aeromonas, Agrobacterium, Alcaligenes, Bacillus, Burkholderia, Chryseomonas, Enterobacter, Microbacterium, Pseudomonas and Xanthomonas were reported by several studies [12][13][14]. On the other hand, the deleterious effect of bacterium on plants can be species or cultivars specific [15].…”

“…Other strains of Bacillus have been able to inhibit broomrape considerably. Treating broomrape seedlings by Bacillus atrophaeus QUBC16 and B. subtilis QUBC18 reduced the radical elongation of broomrape significantly (Barghouthi & Salman, ). However, other rhizobacteria strains such as fluorescent pseudomonads also are able to suppress different broomrape species (Zermane, Souissi, Kroschel, & Sikora, ).…”

“…tritici (Wang et al 2015) besides this bacterium shows plant growth promoting activities on commercial wheat varieties (Batool et al 2016). Also, soil remediation and weed control properties were investigated by Barghouthi and Salman (2010). Surprisingly M. hydrocarbonoxydans bacterium is also carried diamino acid in the cell-wall peptidoglycan of BAS69T is lysine and of BNP48T is ornithine.…”
