Bacterial, Fungal, and Viral Disease Resistance Loci Mapped in a Recombinant Inbred Common Bean Population (`Dorado'/XAN 176)

Abstract: Understanding the genomic associations among disease resistance loci will facilitate breeding of multiple disease resistant cultivars. We constructed a genetic linkage map in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) containing six genes and nine quantitative trait loci (QTL) comprising resistance to one bacterial, three fungal, and two viral pathogens of bean. The mapping population consisted of 79 F5:7 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from a `Dorado'/X… Show more

“…The I gene located on B2 , is independent of recessive resistance conditioned by three different bc genes. The bc-3 gene is located on B6 (Johnson et al, 1997;Miklas et al, 2000c;Mukeshimana et al, 2005), whereas the bc-1 2 allele was mapped to B3 . The non-specific bc-u allele, needed for expression of bc-2 2 resistance, also resides on B3 based on the loose linkage with the bc-1 locus (Strausbaugh et al, 1999).…”

“…There are several genetic maps on which many of the rust resistance genes have been mapped; for instance, Gepts et al (1993);Nodari et al (1993);McClean et al (1994) (Ur-6); Jung et al (1996) (Ur-BAC-6); Freyre et al 1998 (Bean Core Map); Jung et al (1998) (Ur-9 and Ur-12); Miklas et al (1998) (Ur-5); Miklas et al (2000) (Ur-Dorado-53, Ur-Dorado-108, Ur-5 marker); Miklas et al (2002) (Ur-3, Ur-4, Ur-5, Ur-9, Ur-11, Ur-12, Ur-Dorado-53, Ur-Dorado-108 The Bean Core ('BAT 93'/'Jalo EEP 558') map has been expanded to accommodate most of these, and other, genes . Chromosome numbers, allocated in 2003 by Pedrosa et al (2003), have been changed to correspond with those used for the Core Map linkage groups by Freyre et al (1998), Pedrosa-Harand et al (2006), and Pedrosa et al (2008).…”

“…The dominant red seed coat color of 'Dorado' (Fig. 1) was presumed to be controlled by R (Miklas et al 2000), but this gene has an interaction with B that differs from the known gene interaction of R with G B v, which expresses dark seal brown (nearly black) seed coat color. Two hypotheses could fit the preliminary data.…”
