“…Taylorella asinigenitalis has very similar colony appearance and bacteriological properties to T. equigenitalis , the causative agent of contagious equine metritis (CEM) 5 and misidentification of this organism can have important implications for international trade since only the detection of T. equigenitalis in a horse leads to a declaration of CEM. Taylorella asinigenitalis has previously been reported in male equids ( Equus asinus and E. caballus ) in the United States 1,2,4,6,7 and Europe, 8‐12 and an onager ( E. hemionus onager ) in the United Kingdom 13 . Taylorella asinigenitalis has been cultured from broodmares following natural service by infected Jack donkeys but was not associated with clinical signs 2,10 .…”
