Babinet's principle and saturation of the resonance frequency of scaled-down complementary metasurfaces

Abstract: It has been previously demonstrated that the resonant frequency of the Split Ring Resonator (SRR) reaches a saturation value when its size is continuously scaled down, and at the same time, the resonance is attenuated. Now, it is demonstrated that similar saturation and attenuation phenomena happens to its complementary screen, which is commonly called a Complementary SRR (CSRR). It was found that the saturation frequency of the CSRR is near the saturation frequency of the SRR with equal geometrical dimensions… Show more

“…According to the LC equivalent circuit theory, the performance of the SRR is mainly affected by the thickness t m , opening radian β , radius r , and width w . 44 After optimizing (Refer to the supplemental information S1 for details), the thicknesses of the gold, VO 2 , and SiO 2 are 0.2 μm, 0.2 μm, and 35 μm. The period P of the unit cell is 200 μm.…”
