Abstract:BNP concentrations predict outcome in contemporary Eisenmenger patients. Increases in BNP concentrations over time are also of prognostic significance. In addition, disease targeting therapies may help to reduce BNP concentrations in this population, while treatment-naïve patients have static or rising BNP concentrations.
“…In a very recent study based on data of 181 ES patients, a composite echocardiographic score was also highly predictive of clinical outcome [35]. Another very recent study demonstrated the predictive value of BNP in ES [36].…”

“…49 A study of patients with Eisenmenger syndrome (n=181, age 36.9 ± 12.1 years, 31% with Down's syndrome), in whom B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) concentrations were measured as part of routine clinical care, found that they predicted outcome. 50 In addition, the authors speculated that disease-targeting treatments may help to reduce BNP concentrations in this population, while treatment-naive patients have static or rising BNP concentrations. This topic was discussed in more detail in an editorial by D'Alto.…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
