B Plant process piping replacement feasibility study

Abstract

A number of feasibility studies and assessments have been initiated in support of redefining the double shell tank waste disposal strategy. The B Plant Process Piping Replacement Feasibility Study, which is one element of that work, addresses the feasibility of partial or extensive process piping replacement if corrosion or other conditions preclude use of some or all o f the existing process piping. The study includes: An architectural assessment. A review of the existing embedded piping arrangement, location, and characteristics that might support routing new piping through existing embedded piping. A structural design assessment to determine if insurmountable impediments exist to making new piping penetrations. An assessment of new technology for cutting large diameter (38.1 cmi to 50.8 cm [15-in. to 20-in.]) and long (2.2 m [7-ft]) penetrations and equipment concepts for manually and remotely performing this work. Concepts for new piping installation. This interim report describes the findings of the embedded pipe lining assessment. SCOPE OF WORK This assessment will review the geometric characteristics of the existing embedded 25-12 CB.process pipe and assess both the logic and feasibility of using these pipe routings as pathways for installation of new, more corrosion resistant material or pipe.
