In fact, the physico-chemical properties of water-masses and sediment types including the temperature, pH, oxygenation, grain size and organic carbon content, and the characteristics of bottom currents, (Gupta, 1999;Fontanier et al, 2002;Murray, 2006;Martins et al, 2016) mostly control the distribution, abundance and diversity of benthic foraminifera. For these reasons, the study of foraminifera represents a powerful tool in the reconstruction of (paleo)environmental characteristics, and in the evaluation of the effects of pollutant and other anthropogenic impacts on marine environments (du Châtelet and Debenay, 2010;Frontalini and Coccioni, 2011;Martins et al, 2016).…”
