Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Dork Diaries and a lot of Manga -stimuli for the promotion of reading based on borrowing figuresAbstract: The report given below examines the borrowing figures of young readers of the municipal library of Koblenz in the year 2013. The figures show which books were borrowed most often by girls and boys aged between one and seventeen years. In addition, non-book-media are taken into account among which comics and manga are represented strikingly often. The range of books children and young people prefer to read in their spare time shall serve as stimulus for the promotion of reading. Therefore, this article also offers an insight into the most popular books in order to determine which content or technical criteria appeal to young people especially well.
