“…In this work, to address the above challenges, we propose a laser‐based technology that can produce laser‐induced heterogeneous permanent/erasable nanostructures (LIHPEN) on metals, especially noble metals, without causing ablation damage to intrinsic surfaces. During the processing, a nanosecond laser is utilized to irradiate an ink layer of Solvent Black 7 (SBk7, a traditional, low‐cost staining dye [ 42–44 ] ) coated on a metal surface. As an absorbent material, the SBk7 coating absorbs laser energy and melts, vaporizes or even carbonizes, with resulting carbonization degrees controlled by localized laser fluence and effective pulse number determining the permanent or erasable characteristic of the remaining coating layers.…”
