Azimuthal correlations of prompt D mesons with charged particles in pp and p–Pb collisions at $$\varvec{\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02\ \hbox {TeV}$$

Abstract: The measurement of the azimuthal-correlation function of prompt D mesons with charged particles in pp collisions at $$\sqrt{s} =5.02\ \hbox {TeV}$$ s = 5.02 TeV and p–Pb collisions at $$\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}} = 5.02\ \hbox {TeV}$$ s NN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC is reported. The $$\mathrm{D}^{0}$$ D 0 , $$\mathrm{D}^{+} $$ D + , and $$\mathrm{D}^{*+} $$ D ∗ + mesons, together with their charge conjugates, were reconstructed at midrapidity in the transverse momen… Show more

“…Recent ALICE results on the azimuthal correlation distribution of prompt D mesons with charged hadrons in pp and p-Pb collisions at √ s NN = 5.02 TeV are qualitatively described by several LO and NLO simulations [3]. Among these, PYTHIA 8, which includes MPI and colour reconnection description, well describes the measured correlations.…”

“…Charged hadrons are selected in |η| < 0.8, with a similar method to that outlined in Ref. [3]. The azimuthal-correlation distributions are examined in the pseudorapidity-difference range |∆η| < 1 for four D-meson p T ranges, 3 < p D T < 5 GeV/c, 5 < p D T < 8 GeV/c, 8 < p D T < 16 GeV/c, and 16 < p D T < 24 GeV/c.…”

“…The angular correlation of D 0 , D + and D * + mesons with charged particles were studied. The correlation functions and the near-and away-side peak properties are found to be consistent in pp and p-Pb collisions, showing no modifications due to nuclear effects within uncertainties [11]. jets does not appear to be affected by cold nuclear matter effects within current uncertainties.…”

“…As detailed in Ref. [8] with pp and p-Pb data at √ s NN = 5.02 TeV, a differential study in p D T and in p assoc T is performed to understand the evolution of the charm jet-shape and its composition. Moreover, the comparison of the results in the two collision systems provides a good agreement within statistical uncertainties.…”
