Azimuthal asymmetries in unpolarized Drell-Yan processes and the Boer-Mulders distributions of antiquarks

Abstract: Using a previous extraction of the quark Boer-Mulders distributions from semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering data, we fit the unpolarized Drell-Yan data on the cos2 asymmetry, determining the antiquark Boer-Mulders distributions. A good agreement with the data is found in the region of low q T , where the transverse-momentum factorization approach applies.

“…For the unpolarized distributions we use the GRV98 fit [71], which were also used by Refs. [64][65][66]69] for the other aforementioned non-perturbative inputs that enter. All parton correlation functions are evaluated at the scale q T with leading order evolution of the collinear functions.…”

“…4-6, in general the chiral-odd piece is negligible. We have checked that this is a robust statement by changing parameters in both the Boer-Mulders function from [64] (including looking at both Fit 1 and Fit 2) and the transversity function from [69] within their error ranges. In all cases, we found the chiral-odd piece is roughly four orders of magnitude smaller than the total asymmetry (in the x F -range where A γ N is nonzero).…”

“…As a result, they are less known than the chiral-even distribution functions. Anyway, there are some efforts to extract transversity from SIDIS data [46,47], and Boer-Mulders function from SIDIS and Drell-Yan data [48][49][50][51]. For h ⊥ 1T and h ⊥ 1L , there are extensive model calculations [52][53][54][55][56][57][58][59][60] and some proposals to measure them in SIDIS and pp Drell-Yan processes.…”
