Purpose:The purpose of this study was to identify the impacts of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination-related health belief, attitudes toward HPV vaccination, and subjective norms on HPV vaccination intent targeting mothers of elementary school daughters. Methods:The study use a correlative survey design. The subjects of the study were 121 mothers of elementary school daughters located in metropolitan city B. All subjects agreed to participate in the study. The data were collected from September 1 to October 18, 2018, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Independent t-test, ANOVA with a post hoc Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Attitude toward HPV vaccination, subjective norms, vaccination plans for their children, and mother's vaccination status were significant factors influencing HPV vaccination intention. These factors accounted for 72% of the HPV vaccination intention. Conclusions: This study showed that factors affecting the intention of mothers of elementary school daughters to vaccinate against HPV were HPV vaccination attitudes, subjective norms, vaccination plans for their children, and mother's vaccination status. The biggest influencing factor was HPV vaccination attitudes. Therefore, in order to encourage mothers of elementary school daughters to vaccinate against HPVs, national-level policies should be implemented to create a social atmosphere of positive attitudes toward HPV vaccinations that also emphasizes how easy it is to get vaccinated against HPV. Based on this, mothers of elementary school daughters should be encouraged to have them vaccinated against HPV, thus contributing to improving the HPV vaccination rates of elementary school girls.

Knowledge of HPV and Surgery among Women Who Underwent Cervical Conization: A Korean Multi-Center Study

PurposeHuman papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a well-known cause of cervical cancer, which, along with its precursors, can be diagnosed and treated with cervical conization (CC). This study aimed to assess HPV- and procedure-related knowledge among women who had undergone CC.Materials and MethodsBetween February and May 2014, consecutive women who had undergone CC at five different educational hospitals were recruited. All patients had undergone a loop electrosurgical excision procedure as the method of CC. A survey was conducted with a self-developed, 29-item questionnaire, measuring knowledge related to HPV and CC. We analyzed the responses of 160 patients who completed the questionnaire.ResultsMean total knowledge scores (±standard deviation) for HPV and CC were 5.2±3.0 of a possible 13.0 and 8.3±4.2 of a possible 16.0, respectively. While 73% of the patients knew that HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer, only 44% knew that HPV is sexually transmitted. The purpose of CC was correctly identified by 71% of the patients. However, 35% failed to indicate the anatomical area resected at the time of CC in the schematic diagram. Women who were younger (p<0.001), had higher education level (p<0.001), and higher family income (p=0.008) had higher knowledge scores. In contrast, neither interval from CC to survey nor disease severity were associated with total knowledge score.ConclusionThe level of knowledge related to HPV and CC was unexpectedly low in women who had undergone CC. Intuitive educational resources may improve this knowledge, and further cohort studies are warranted.

Factors affecting Human Papillomavirus Vaccination among College Nursing Students

This investigates the factors that affect HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccination among college nursing students. The subjects were 604 students from 3 nursing colleges located in city G. Data were collected from June to October 2015 and analyzed using SPSS 21.0 software. 14.7% were in the HPV vaccinated group and 85.3% were in the unvaccinated group. Statistical evaluations were done to determine whether vaccination had any associations with age, year in school, gender, pocket money, health beliefs, and knowledge of the HPV vaccination (p<.001). The average score of cancer prevention behavior of the students was 7.22, and the average score of health beliefs was 24.71. The most determining factor for vaccination was "recommendation from parents or significant others," and the most interfering factor for vaccination was "no interest." The significant factors affecting vaccination were the year in school, pocket money, knowledge of the HPV vaccination, and health beliefs. The vaccination rate of subjects who had knowledge of HPV vaccination was higher (OR=8.59, p<.001). These results can contribute to the limited knowledge about the HPV vaccination of college nursing students. Also, this research provides useful baseline data for increasing the rate of HPV vaccination.
